FoodEdit

ScavengingEdit

If your PC is a druid, ranger or barbarian you can use the RUNESTONE on the ground in front of you and choose 'Scavenge for Food'. Depending on your skill and location this can produce simple foods (like fruit, berries, insects and eggs), supplies (dry wood, vines and other crafting material) or other unusual things including mushrooms and fishing rods (that your character quickly fashions out of found supplies).

Scavenging for food is the best survival method, with the most guaranteed chance of finding sustenance. This is ample reason to be thankful for one of these survival CLASSes in your PARTY.

ForagingEdit

For those who do not possess the skill to scavenge, there's always more obvious food supplies. Fruit and berry bushes will supply plentiful bounty to wanderers- providing it's the season for fruit.

You might also spot hidden nests in trees or on the ground. If you're lucky, there might even be something in it- especially in spring when many birds have returned to nest.

Foraging can provide plenty of food to those who like fruit and eggs. However, this method relies on luck and timing- some regions are woefully lacking edible fruits and berries, hidden nests are often bare and you're out of luck in winter and the surrounding months.

FishingEdit

If you have a rod and a body of water that looks promising, you might be able to feed yourself on fresh fish. Of course, you'll need to cook them for them to be edible. Interestingly, this skill is wisdom based- you have to know when to pull and when to give a little.

To fish:

  1. Equip the fishing rod.
  2. Use rod's unique power while near water (The message 'This is a lake to do some fishing or fill my canteen' is a sure sign your near enough to the water. If you only get the message 'I can fill my canteen here' then likely there is no fish there.)
  3. Good luck!

Hint: The Zeethan has many trout and the Southern lake has a good Bass population- although the dwarves are a bit titchy about trespassers. The western rural Areas of Dohral are very popular fishing spots.

HuntingEdit

Deer can be found in many regions and provide plentiful amounts of meat to those who can catch them. Those in nature classes (Druid, ranger, barbarian) might have better luck being able to track them, especially with an animal companion to track the scent.

Deer are currently the only animal guaranteed to give good meat.

CookingEdit

Of course, with raw fish and meat, you need to cook the to be able to eat them. The only exceptions are with animals that can digest such things- to eat raw meat as an animal, go to spells, long range, use on meat. To cook all you need to do is first set up a campfire. As a reminder:

  1. Equip torch- or other sources of fire.
  2. Use dead wood on ground (Don't drop it- right click and use unique power on the ground).
  3. If the wood has not already been lit, then light it now by 'talking' to it and choosing option.
  4. Once lit, talk to the campfire. Set up cookpot.
  5. Place what you want to cook in the fire- it's recommended to put once piece of meat in at a time- just in case you have an accident.
  6. (Optional) Add herbs to the fire along with the meat, for added flavour and nutrition. Be careful what you use for spices.

Cooking is wisdom based. Low wisdom means you'll almost always burn the food. High wisdom makes for very tasty dishes.

ThirstEdit

You'll need water, plain and simple. There's not much to explain here. You'll need to carry a few water canteens on you and refill them at pools. Be careful about diseased water and salt water. If you have an animal companion they'll warn you not to drink the water. If you have animal senses you can often smell for yourself if the water is safe by using animal menu -> detect scents.

Often water around cities and farms is full of sewage and not fit for drinking. Wading through such water, or being in or near it, can also cause nasty parasitic infections which are very hard to cure (Currently you must seek DM help).

Animals can drink from water sources directly by going to spells, long range, use on self when near water.

FatigueEdit

For druids, rangers and barbarians, this is easy to deal with- you can just nap where you like.

For others you need to build a camp, meaning you need fire and something to sleep in.

  1. Equip torch- or other sources of fire.
  2. Use dead wood on ground (Don't drop it- right click and use unique power on the ground).
  3. If the wood has not already been lit, then light it now by 'talking' to it and choosing option.
  4. Use Bedroll/tent on ground- it will become a usable object.
  5. 'Talk' to bedroll/tent. Rest.
  6. Talk to the fire again to dissemble camp. The bedrolls and tents will become items you can pick up again.

You can also use 'cuivipyra' that you can buy from inns before setting on on your journey into the wilds. Having a few bottles of this energizing drink on you can be incredibly useful, seeing as you can only rest once every 3 hours IG (16 mins RL).

Things like jumping and flying will tire you out quickly.

CraftingEdit

More to be added:

Unfortunately most things, aside from herbology which can be done inside a cook pot, cannot be done in the wild because they require crafting surfaces not found in the wilds. And even then, herbology requires empty bottles to put potions in.

  • Splints:You can craft splints by equipping a sword (or any SLASHING weapon, best done with a weapon that has no effect likes acid, flame or ice- not a dagger or other weapon) and USE the dry wood item.
  • Torches:If you have a sword (not a dagger or other) with flame effects equip it and then use dry wood on it.
  • Rope: Vines (to be added)
  • Raft: Vines and wood (to be added)
  • Stakes: Equip plain sword (no effects like flame or acid, not other types of weapons), and use splints on it.
  • Bandages: Add 5 of each of Ilendoneth,Ildamadaoneth, Eldaoneth, Seldaoneth, Solchaoneth for a roll of bandages (has five uses).
